Hiking 101

  • Old Field Preserve Mead Street at intersection of Schoolhouse Road Waccabuc, NY 10597 United States (map)

Would you like to start hiking, or get out on some beautiful wooded trails away from cars and roads? But, maybe you’re not sure where to go, and a bit nervous about the possibility of getting lost or how to stay safe? Spend an hour hiking with Bonnie Robins, LLT co-chair emeritus and Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) certified hike leader to learn all the basics of how to experience the joy of Lewisboro trails safely. This hike will be about an hour on easy terrain followed by a half hour of discussion and refreshments in the meditation garden.
Recommended gear includes long pants, sturdy shoes, a hat, bug spray, and a water bottle. Friendly dogs on leash are welcome. Steady rain and other inclement weather cancels.Registration is requested at the link below to plan for refreshments and communicate any updates, but not required. The entrance to Old Field Preserve is on the East side of Mead Street (at the intersection of Schoolhouse Road) in Waccabuc. There's plenty of parking in the preserve and on the side of the preserve driveway.
