Vernal Pool Educational Program with Taro Ietaka - Saturday, April 25th, 2026, 9:00am - 10:30am at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Michigan Road

Explore the lively spring happenings at vernal pools with this educational program.

Vernal pools are sites of incredible activity in early spring and the perfect spot to learn about the lifecycles of amphibians. In this program led by Taro Ietaka, Assistant Director of Conservation for Westchester County and Supervisor of Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, we will learn about the noisy creatures that visit vernal pools, and their importance in our local ecosystem. This program is co-sponsored by Westchester County Parks.

IMPORTANT: participants should not use sunscreen or repellent on any part of their bodies or clothing that may come in contact with amphibians or their habitat. Please wear rubber boots or other waterproof footwear as we will be walking through wet, muddy areas. We recommend wearing appropriate layers. Steady rain or other inclement weather will cancel. We will continue the program in light rain. This program is designed for people aged 5 and up as we will be walking on uneven terrain for a ~20 min hike.
