September Preschool Nature Walk - Meadows and Butterflies
We are excited to see our preschool friends again in person to explore the meadow, look for butterflies, and go for a nature walk at Old Field Preserve in Waccabuc.
This program is designed for ages 3-5, but all ages are welcome. Sturdy shoes suggested. Steady rain cancels.
Entrance to Old Field Preserve is on the East side of Mead Street (at the intersection of Schoolhouse Road) in Waccabuc. There's plenty of parking in the preserve and on the side of the preserve lane.
Children under the age of 6 will not need to wear masks, but please bring a child mask for any instances where children may be in close proximity (e.g., observing a flower). All adult participants will be asked to adhere to CDC and AMC guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19:
Carry a mask: Any time you know others may be present, you should have your mask on. Keeping it at the ready while hiking is okay if you can quickly pull it up over your nose and mouth before you come within six feet of others. (And of course, "leave no trace." Take your mask and gloves home with you.)
Slow down, step back, and let people know when you’re approaching: Everyone should yield to others.
Step off the trail when needed: If the trail isn’t wide enough to allow for six feet in passing, step off the trail.
Keep single file (even on wide trails): Keep your group single file: do not spread out all over the trail.
Don’t stand across the trail to chat: It is great to see friends and acquaintances but stopping on either side of the trail to chat just creates a “gauntlet” that others must either pass through or go off-trail to avoid.
