Caregivers' Hike

Caregivers Nature Break - Thursday, September 18th, 10:00am - 12:30pm at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation/Meadow

LLT invites caregivers to a mindfulness program to support overall wellness and deeper nature connection.

While the kids are in school, take some time to experience the unique benefits of spending time in nature while connecting with other caregivers of special needs children. It has been proven that just 20-minutes of exposure to nature can decrease blood pressure, feelings of anxiety, and other negative ruminations. Nature exposure also boosts our immune system and increases our overall well-being in numerous ways. Our goal is to provide attendees with a meaningful experience that will introduce them to a lifelong tool that can be used whenever the need arises. In addition to forging a deeper bond with nature, attendees will have an opportunity to connect with other caregivers in our community. This program is led by Catherine Downs, a Reiki Master Teacher and a certified Forest Therapy Guide from ANFT, and assisted by Shantala DuGay-Iyengar, LLT board member, Director of Programming and local middle school mom.

This inclusive program has been developed in partnership with the Katonah-Lewisboro Special Education Parent Teacher Organization (KLSEPTO), but is open to ALL caregivers with children or young adults of varying abilities. Sturdy shoes, a hat, appropriate layers, and water are recommended. Steady rain or other inclement weather will cancel.
