For the Love of Birds: Backyard Bird Count - Sunday, February 15th, 2026, 10:00am - 12:00pm at Old Field Preserve
Whether you're a beginner birder or seasoned expert, come join your neighbors in a casual Backyard Bird Count event to keep track of winter bird populations. This citizen science adventure is perfect for people of any level of experience. We will meet at the entrance of Old Field Preserve and then make our way to the Meditation Garden, where we can sit and quietly observe the local birds. Naturalist Jim Nordgren will take participants around the preserve to find bird hotspots and guide us in bird identification. We will keep track of numbers so they can be submitted to the Backyard Bird Count citizen science project. Learn more about the Backyard Bird Count here.
This event is recommended for people aged 5+ through adults. A carry option for younger children and infants is recommended. We recommend sturdy shoes, appropriate layers, water, and binoculars. If you have a bird guide at home feel free to bring that as well! Steady rain or other inclement weather will cancel.
